Mombasa

Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel
Stretching along Shanzu Beach, a ribbon of palm-fringed golden sand, chosen long ago by the local turtles to lay their eggs, and with the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean spanning out before it, the Mombasa Serena offers the ultimate in escapism. Amidst bougainvillaea-filled gardens and shaded by palm trees, this stunning resort blends indigenous architecture and materials with the highest standards of modern hospitality.

The hotel, set out as a village, and its luxurious bedrooms evoke the spirit and style of the ancient town of Lamu with its stunning Swahili-style houses complete with handcrafted doors and native art and furnishings. Many have beautiful views of the ocean and the surrounding gardens.

The hotel has 166 air-conditioned bedrooms and suites and three restaurants, including an open-air restaurant

in the shadows of the palm trees for atmospheric dining under the stars.

The recreational facilities on offer

are superb – scuba diving, tennis, squash, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, mini-sailing, coral reef snorkelling,

beach volleyball and much more.

Evening entertainment includes dancing, live bands and traditional Swahili evenings that capture the spirit of the Arab-style street fair, complete with music and food.

The legendary Maisha health and beauty treatments are available for those seeking the more relaxing of escapes.

The Mombasa Serena Hotel has long been considered the leading resort on this beautiful and history-filled coast.

Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel boasts a total of 9 eating and drink venues within the resort catering for all tastes and includes a pizzeria and ice cream parlour.

The activities available to guests are just as extensive and include: Extensive water sports, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, catamaran sailing, scuba diving lessons, snorkeling.

Glass-bottom boat rides to coral reefs.

Deep-sea fishing for marlin, tuna, wahoo and more.

Floodlit tennis courts and air-conditioned squash courts

Shuffle board and crazy golf.

Additional activities include:

  • Aerobics workouts and aqua aerobics.
  • Fully equipped gymnasium with instructor.
  • Beach walks and nature trails with resident naturalist.
  • Jogging trails.

Situated on Shanzu beach, the most northerly portion of the coast between Mombasa and Mtwapa Creek, the hotel looks out over the waters of Mombasa Marine National Park, a 200 square kilometre national marine reserve. Featuring a well developed coral barrier reef. The park is visited by turtles and plays host to over 250 marine species.

The coastal rainforests, which rise to the rear of the coastal strip, are all that remain of a vast and ancient forest that once covered much of East Africa. Both the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and the Shimba Hills National Park are open for visits where you can see over half of Kenya's rarest plant species.

Much of the Kenyan coastline has evolve over 30 million years and offers a fascinating array of cliffs, stacks and rock platforms.

Because the Serena Beach Hotel offers a relaxed daytime ambiance and features a wide range of activity options, we recommend that you include a selection of beachwear, swimwear and sportswear for daytime wear. As for the evenings we suggest that a selection of cool, lightweight, casual smart clothing would be appropriate whilst a light wrap or jacket may also be useful on breezy evenings.

In your travel kit put a sun hat, UV sunscreen, sunglasses, cover-up T shirt, insect repellent and anti malarial prophylactics.
