The Scotsman Hotel is a short walk from Princes
Street, and an even shorter one from the Royal Mile. But there
are reasons to put these on hold. One is the health and fitness
centre, Escape, which features a luxurious Cowshed Spa, developed
in conjunction with the original Cowshed at Babington House,
a 16-metre steel pool, juice bar, aerobics studio and a large,
vibrant gym, also popular with its local membership.

Another reason not to stray far: snug, discreet Vermillion for fine
dining and quiet assignations; or buzzing North Bridge Brasserie,
built in the newspaper's original, magnificent entrance hall, with
its great-value bistro menu and party vibe.

-
Take the Penthouse (complete with personal
sauna, study and balcony with rooftop views over to Edinburgh
Castle) for a private party – your
own dedicated chef will prepare any menu, including a BBQ.
-
Exclusive use of the 46-seat Screening Room,
including champagne, canapés or just favourite cinema
snacks.
-
Exclusive use of the intimate Cowshed Spa for a memorable pampering
experience in the company of friends.

If you're one of those who can't decide between traditional
or contemporary when it comes to booking a hotel, the Scotsman Hotel
is for you. It does both, to perfection. Built to house the eponymous
newspaper in the centre of Edinburgh in the early 1900s - in the
days when a newspaper office could resemble a castle on the outside
and be clad in marble and walnut panelling within - the Scotsman
Hotel is a place with a colourful past. News was broken, features
fashioned - and you can now stay in the room where journalists were
regularly hired and fired. |
Original features remain; but the hotel has been luxuriously restyled
with contemporary furniture and art, bold colours, modern, interactive
technology and quirky, cool features such as privacy hatches and
Edinburgh Monopoly tables. Each of the 69 rooms and suites is architecturally
slightly different from the next, and each designed individually.
Top treat is the Penthouse Suite, which has a private lift, dining
room, library, sauna and rooftop terrace. Alternatively, check out
a Directors or Publishers Suite, an Editors Room or a more conventionally
titled Study or Deluxe Room.
Over seven years, the Scotsman Hotel has been recognised both
for its edgy styling and its very bespoke service.
