Welcome...

Ireland is a land where histories are buried within histories and whose heritage is shaped upon stories of myth, legend, and lore that echo across thousands of years of traditional storytelling.

Nobody knows where Doonbeg's story begins, save for the dunes upon which its scene is set – but two men from South Carolina - Buddy Darby and Leonard Long recognised its singular magnificence and set about realising their vision, where others had left it behind:

“When we stepped out on that site we realised that it might be the only time in our lives that we could be involved in something as rare as that. It was a magnificent piece of links land and it was remarkable for such a site to be available anywhere in the world.” -Buddy Darby

Considered originally as an ideal setting for links golf from as early as 1892 by the Scottish Black Watch Regiment, more accessible areas were favoured over Doonbeg on account of its remote location leaving the site lying fallow for another two centuries.

Dining...

Award-winning chef Tom Colicchio, the force behind the huge success of New York City's Gramercy Tavern and Craft, has applied his culinary style and influence to the dining experience at Doonbeg – from gastronomic favourites at the informal Darby's Pub to more creative international dishes in the Long Room.

Darby´s - With views across the 18th green and out to the Atlantic, Darby's Bar encapsulates the prevalent style of Doonbeg – relaxed, warm Irish ambience mixed with New England panache.

The Long Room - Offering an innovative sampling of international dishes, the Long Room matches exquisite dining with impeccable service. Under the careful attention of resident chef Sebastian Schulze, enjoy a selection of light, modern creative dishes inspired by the ocean – dishes accompanied by fresh locally sourced vegetables, followed by chilled sorbets, champagne suspensions, and hot puddings.

The Tea Room - The lounge area is located right before The Long Room and is the ideal location for an afternoon tea or a glass of whiskey by the fireplace. Dinner can also be served if desired.

Breakfast at Doonbeg - Our breakfast buffet is served daily in The Long Room and a breakfast menu is available at Darby's. Guests can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the morning ocean landscape while being served an eclectic choice of maple syrup pancakes, fresh fruit, cereals, french toast, coffees, freshly squeezed juices, teas, continental pastries, and of course, the Doonbeg full Irish breakfast.

Golf...

"I thought this would be the last chance in my life to get a site like this to build on: the sand dunes, the water, the beach, the wind blowing at 40 knots, the one thing I said when we started was, 'Guys, I am not going to Americanize this golf course, not one single foreign blade of grass.' Once we laid out the fairways, I just started mowing the grass that was there. The only major dirt we moved was for the clubhouse pad." - Greg Norman.

The unique practice facility at Doonbeg includes:
• Driving Range
• Putting Green
• Pitching Area
• 2 Bunkers

Doonbeg Golf Course officially opened in 2002, and was immediately designated as Golf Digest's “Best New International Course.” Enjoying a breathtaking location matched with distinctive services and facilities, the unique luxury accommodations and close proximity to Shannon Airport make Doonbeg 5 star golf resort in Ireland one of the world's most desirable golf destinations.
