The History
La Posta Vecchia Hotel is a mansion built around 1640 commissioned by the Orsini princes to receive friends and travellers. In 1693 the property has been sold to the Odescalchi’s family. During the First World War it began to deteriorate and it almost fell into ruin until the 1960 when the American billionaire J. Paul Getty purchased it and brought it back to it´s
historic splendour.
During the renovation work, the remains of a large Roman villa were discovered and now these ruins form the heart of the small archaeological museum, situated in the hotel’s basement. The current owner bought the property directly from the Getty’s family and brought La Posta Vecchia back to its original function of refined hospitality, without touching any of the treasures collected by J. Paul Getty. In 1992
the villa became one of the finest hotels of the Relais & Châteaux Association, equipped with all modern conveniences and security systems. The 19 rooms and suites have their own particular style and original furnishings, some bearing the names of personalities who have stayed in the mansion in various eras, others the names of the past owners of the furniture present in the rooms.
The Surroundings
The towns and villages surrounding the hotel create days of fascinating exploration including the Necropolis of Cerveteri, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2004, the Castle of Bracciano, the villages of Trevignano and Anguillara Sabazia and
Bracciano’s lake.

The young Chef, Michele Gioia, produces dishes based upon Italian and local tradition. Particular attention is paid to vegetarians, as well as those with celiac disease, with specially prepared menus. The elegantly furnished restaurant
enjoys a spectacular sea-facing patio.

An indoor swimming pool, the caldarium and the Health & Beauty Club offers an excellent selection of treatments.
