Art begins where the potential of most people ends. That is why at Hotel de l’Europe we like to elevate hospitality into an art form. When you arrive at our hotel, you enter a world of luxury and splendour. This is evident not only in the gracious lobby where original paintings of Dutch masters are on display, but also in the elegant décor of all the rooms and suites. Hotel de l’Europe’s staff takes pleasure in providing attentive and personalized service in a refined setting. Our renowned chef de cuisine’s exquisite creations never cease to delight guests. We are proud of our illustrious 112-year history, tradition and style, and look forward to welcoming you to our hotel and restaurants.

Hotel de l'Europe has 100 elegant, tastefully decorated rooms, varying from luxurious single and double rooms to a romantic bridal suite, junior suites and suites complete with sitting room and separate bedroom. There is also a two-level penthouse suite that offers a magnificent view of the Amstel river. The majority of the rooms have connecting doors and can be converted into a two-room unit. Ideal for families with small children or large parties.

Hotel de l’Europe has two restaurants, one bar and a hotel lounge. Our lovely terrace, situated right on the Amstel river with a magnificent view of the Munt Tower, is open when the weather permits. Executive Chef and Maître Cuisinier Jean-Jacques Menanteau and Maître Erik Smit are happy to welcome you to our restaurants.

An important element of Hotel de l'Europe is its legendary Restaurant Excelsior, with fabulous views of the Amstel river and the Munt Tower. Here you can enjoy delightful breakfasts, lunches and dinners in a refined, classic setting. Restaurant Excelsior has gained international fame for its superb cuisine and excellent wine cellar. Your dinner will be accompanied by pleasant live piano music. We appreciate it greatly if our guests observe a suitable dress code.

When you visit Restaurant Excelsior, car parking is free of charge.

Next to Freddy’s Bar is the intimate Brasserie Le Relais, an informal restaurant that was again awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin in 2006.

The menu at Le Relais offers an excellent selection of dishes and wines, varying from salads and sandwiches to main courses and desserts, all of which are very reasonably priced. You can also dine in Brasserie Le Relais before or after your visit to the theatre, until 11.00 pm

Throughout the year theme weeks are organised. The Dutch stews, Greek and Mediterranean theme weeks are popular.

Hotel de l’Europe’s delightful terrace is open in the summer, weather permitting. The pleasant view of the Amstel river adds a special touch to your lunch or dinner. Hotel de l’Europe has its own jetties for water taxis and canal cruise boats.
Guests can also arrive for lunch or dinner at the terrace by boat. Most boats can be moored temporarily at the jetty, although this does depend on the size of the boat. The terrace is heated during pleasant but chilly weather.
Catering is available from the terrace: take-away finger food and/or an excellent bottle of wine or champagne can be collected by boat!

You can, of course, always enjoy a cool, delicious beer at Freddy’s Bar. In addition, you can choose from a wide range of special aperitifs and digestifs. Enjoy the perennially pleasant atmosphere during your drinks and snacks.

The best hotel bar in Amsterdam!
PS of the Week, the weekend supplement of the Amsterdam daily Het Parool, has nominated Freddy’s Bar as the best hotel bar in Amsterdam. Described as small and dark with a traditional wooden bar with a copper railing, where jazzy music plays in the background and heavy red velvet and brown curtains complete the décor: that’s, according to Het Parool, how a hotel bar should look. The article concludes with a plea to management never to change or modernize anything at Freddy’s. Some things are better left as they are.

In our lounge you can enjoy drinks, snacks and, in the afternoon, High Tea. The lounge affords a wonderful view of the Amstel river.
Free coffee awaits hotel guests every morning until 10.00 am. Guests can read the International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and other (international) daily newspapers at their leisure.

A SPECIAL AFTERNOON

Making an art of afternoon tea. Serving traditional English High Tea is an art that our culinary team has mastered to perfection. Enjoy tea in our lounge, to the accompaniment of pleasant music while admiring the wonderful view over Amstel river. Sample a variety of delicious teas, exquisite savouries and tempting pastries.

High Tea at Hotel de l’Europe is the perfect intermezzo or end of an afternoon of shopping in Amsterdam. Reservations for our High Tea are accepted seven afternoons a week from 3.00 pm until approximately 5.00 pm.
