The Hotel Relais Certosa is located on 15 acres of a park-like
setting surrounded by olive trees, cypresses, pines and oak trees.
Originally created as a guest quarters in 1400, it was enlarged
in the nineteenth century and in 1975, it became part of the Bettoja
Hotel Group.
The Villa of Relais Certosa originated as the guest quarters of the Certosa dei
Galluzo Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in Europe, a destination
of pilgrimages and which hosted hundreds of religious scholars, and, before the
Napoleonic pillages, preserved over 500 exquisite works of art where even today
one can admire them when visiting this antique Monastery, still occupied by the
Cistercian monks.
It was renovated along with other buildings on the
property to make a total of 63 rooms and 6 suites, some decorated
in rustic Tuscan style and some modern.
The rooms and suites overlook the magnificent park setting surrounding them,
and have a view of the Tuscan hills and the Certosa.
Ristorante 21, found in Hotel Mediterraneo,
is an example of pure Italian Art Deco style; dining room adorned
with mosaics, above all the inspired hunting scene of D'Urso, woodwork
and marble busts of Roman Emperors. Refined environment, warm and
welcoming maintaining the original style of a time when traditional
Italian cuisine discriminately dominated. Also open to the clientele
of Hotel Atlantico, part of the Group Bettoja, adjoined to the Hotel
Mediterraneo and accessed internally.
The Relais Villa offers modern meeting and banquet facilities,
tennis courts, a bar, and a friendly restaurant where typical delicious
Tuscan dishes are prepared and served; lunch and dinner can also
be served in the garden or in the gazebo.
The hotel is located 500 m from the Firenze-Certosa exit off highway A1 on Via
Chiantigiana. Famous Florentine sights such as Ponte Vecchio can be reached easily
in 10 minutes with the Hotel's complimentary shuttle service.
